AIDS/HIV in America: 35 Years Later

AIDS - USA-Focus.org

There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again … all that laughter will end in heartbreak. (Proverbs, The Message translation of the Bible)

“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion.” (John Adams)

“He therefore is the truest friend to the liberty of this country who tries most to promote its virtue, ….” (Samuel Adams)

“Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; ….” (Charles Carroll)

“You may promise yourself everything – but [without] health … there is no happiness.” (Thomas Jefferson)

“Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence.” (John Adams)

◊ The first AIDS case in the US was reported in 1981.

HIV/AIDS EFFECT in Perspective
Approximately 14,000 people die annually from AIDS-related health problems. This is 43 times less than the number of people who die each year from heart disease, and over 40 times less than those who die from cancer.  It’s 5 times less than the deaths caused by diabetes, 3 times less than deaths by suicide, and 2 times less than fatalities from unintentional falls in the home.

HIV/AIDS FUNDING in Perspective
The federal government is giving more than $25 billion in 2016 to fight HIV/AIDS.  That is 5-to-25 times MORE than the amount the government is giving to fight diseases that kill up to 43 times MORE people.

◊ Homosexual males are less than 2% of the US population but account for more than 60% of all new HIV/AIDS infections. One out of every five gay men is HIV positive, but almost half of them don’t know it because they don’t get tested.

◊ Heterosexual males are 47% of the US population and account for 9% of all new HIV/AIDS infections.

◊ Blacks are 12% of the US population. Of the 1.1 million people in the U.S. currently living with HIV, more than 500,000 of them are Black. Their HIV/AIDS infection rate is 9 times greater than that of Whites; 2 times greater than Latinos.

◊ 80% of HIV/AIDS sexual contact infections could be eliminated by wearing condoms. That would mean a 68% annual decrease in the total number of AIDS infections and would save 34,000 lives/year. All it would require is for promiscuous men – gay and straight – to simply use condoms.

◊ The HIV/AIDS infection rate in all categories except one, has gone down significantly over the years. In spite of this, the total number of new HIV/AIDS cases has essentially remained unchanged at 50,000 new cases each year (and 20,000 more undiagnosed cases). That is because the category of gay men has increased its infection rate by 22%.

◊ AIDS Walks have raised over $310 million in private donations in the past 31 years. On the websites of the three largest AIDS Walks organizations – San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York, the fact is never mentioned that condom use by promiscuous men could reduce the HIV/AIDS infection rate by 68%, almost immediately.

The HIV/AIDS situation in the U.S. is as frustrating as it is tragic. Critically important facts are dangerously unreported or downplayed by organizations that receive huge amounts of public and private funds to fight this disease.

Since the first HIV/AIDS case 35 years ago, organizations have received hundreds of billions in public and private funding to fight it. That fight has been unsuccessful, attested to by the unchanging infection rate. Still, these organizations continue to primarily promote a medical solution, when 85% of new HIV/AIDS cases have a solely moral cause: the refusal to wear condoms when engaging in promiscuous sexual behavior. Simply changing this one behavior would reduce the annual total of HIV/AIDS deaths to a number far less than the people who die each year from drowning, or choking on their food.  HIV/AIDS organizations portray the disease as just another medical issue that threatens everyone equally, but that is an unconscionable distortion of the facts listed above.

Worst of all, unlike all other HIV/AIDS categories of people who get infected, the disease rate for homosexual males and Blacks continues to rise because they refuse to change their behavior.

Relative to the number of lives it claims in comparison with other diseases, HIV/AIDS receives a hugely disproportionate amount of government funding. The government has offered no explanation for this disparity.

◊ The federal government should be made to account for its disproportionate funding for HIV/AIDS relative to other diseases that claim far more lives.

◊ The federal government should align HIV/AIDS funding with the prevention facts. They should require all organizations receiving money to put primary emphasis on publishing the statistics on prevention and emphasizing condom use. They should require HIV/AIDS organizations to take a public stand on the advisability of avoiding promiscuity, keeping sexual activity within the confines of committed relationships and marriage.
